First Day

Well, it's been way too long since I updated this thing, so I'm going to start fresh today on our first school day.

Love our new curriculum - My Father's World, Exploring Countries and Cultures. We did our Bible in Windows on the World and worked on the memory verse, John 3:16. Ryan pretty much knew it and Justin knew most of it. The boys filled out their passport applications, Ryan is very excited to mail his.

The rest of our day went well too, loving Math U See. Justin is really taking off with his reading.

Sunday Lunches

Well, Johnny had this past Sunday off of work, which is very unusual, so we decided to go to lunch as a family after church. Easy enough, right? Uh, think again.

My first clue should have been when we couldn't get a parking spot in the lot and had to park in the lot next door. We get seated and start looking at the menus. But it is hard to concentrate when you have two year old yelling "Fishies" at the top of their lungs. Think Darla from Finding Nemo and you will get a sense of what was going on. This restaurant has a beautiful fishtank, with several tables right next to it. Unfortunately, if we had been any farther from the fish tank, we would have been in the parking lot, which had no empty spaces, by the way.

Typically, Madison is sitting in my lap when we go out to eat, which makes my choice of meal not steak or chicken, but whatever can be eaten with one hand. But Johnny decided to have her sit next to him this time, which she loved. I was fine, until I noticed her ponytail and bow coming out. Suddenly, I couldn't eat anymore, I was so distracted. I needed to fix that bow! Any of you ladies with girls know what I'm talking about. I tried to get Johnny to fix it, but got that "I'm not sure how" look. So he hands her to me so I can fix it, knowing that my meal will not be near as enjoyable if I am looking at a hair out of place on the princess. Well, she lets out the most tremendous howl "I WANT MY DADDY!". Well all righty then, ponytail and bow come out and I do my best to finish my meal.

But, even with the chaos of a screaming princess and hair askew, I still was amazed at the family God has given me. And I am so thankful he did. With kids come worries, big and small, and sometimes I forget who orchestrated it all. He is the only one who can give me peace and direction when times are crazy. Philippians 4:6-7 says Do not be anxious about anything; but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your request to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding , will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.

Have a great day everyone, blessings to all! :)

Old Habits Meet New Goals

Well, we made it through the holidays and are finishing up the birthday celebrations tonight.  (Happy Birthday to that special someone who shares a birthday with Ryan!)  The boys had a fantastic time at their indoor pool party this past weekend.

I've been thinking about New Year's Resolutions.  I make them almost every year, and can't seem to stick with them.  I heard some suggestions that I am going to try this year.  First, I will make goals for myself, and then I will write a prayer for the year that will help me attain those goals.  I know that only through Christ will I be able to meet those challenges.   Philippians 4:13 says " I can do everything through Him who gives me strength".   How often I try and "go it alone" only to end up back where I was.  Some goals are easier than others - *Clean the kitchen before I go to bed, not too hard.  *Tackle the laundry monster in my room, a bit more difficult.  But I know that no matter what God has called me to, I can do it with His help.  Jeremiah 29:11 says "For I know the plans I have for you," declares the Lord, "plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future".   God has a plan for me!

My life verse ( for now) is Isaiah 40: 30-31  Even youths grow tired  and weary, and young men stumble and fall; but those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength.  They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint"   My hope is in the Lord for everything, the little things like housework, cooking, etc. and the biggies, like raising my children to be disciples of Christ, being the supportive God-honoring wife that I am called to be.

Speaking of trusting in the Lord, we have started another homeschool semester.  I found this video on YouTube.  It is my "jumpstart" for January.  Enjoy! (I'm hoping the link worked, if not I'll try again.)

Blessings to all!

Happy New Year

What a great Christmas and New Year we had!  The kids (and I) have been enjoying our new Wii.  Video games have come a long way since Pong.  I never would have dreamed that my kids could actually make a character that looks like me for a video game.  Not only me, but they did the entire family.  I have to admit that Johnny's looks the most like him.

We had a nice dinner out as a family last night for New Years Eve, and then came home to watch football.  After that, we watched the Ball drop and that was about the end of our evening.

The boys have a swim meet this weekend, after that we will spend the rest of the weekend relaxing and getting ready to start school again next week.
